Nokia enhances developer offerings

It seems Nokia has finally understood that it needs to take a good care of developers in order to get them to make apps for their platforms and eventually make Nokia-branded device more appealing to the end users. That said, the Finnish company has issued a number of announcements for developers. Here’s what they got:

  • Free app signing! The only upfront cost is a one off 50 EUR fee to register as an Ovi Publisher.
  • Individuals can now become Ovi Store Publishers, too. Why this wasn’t the case before is beyond me. Anyway, it’s good to know that in addition to companies, individual developers are now also able to submit their content to the Ovi Store. Hopefully, this will result in more apps being available.
  • Nokia Qt SDK is out! As you may know, Qt is Nokia’s next-gen platform that works both on top of Symbian and Maemo/Meego based devices. The SDK is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
  • Related to the previous point, Ovi Publish now accepts Qt content for Ovi Store.

In a nutshell, Nokia may finally be onto something. You can get additional information and developer resources from the Forum Nokia website…
