Fallen Earth Mobile Companion for iPhone Update Previewed; BlackBerry App Released

The post-apocalyptic massively multiplayer online game, Fallen Earth, released an iPhone and Android companion app not too long ago to stay in touch with your clanmates, keep an eye on auctions, and use as a general game reference. The same functions are now available on BlackBerry, shown in some of the screenshots above.

I actually got a chance to play around with the next version of the iPhone app, as well as the game itself. The update will let you send in-game mail (as opposed to just checking existing messages), receive items attached to in-game mail, buy and sell items on the auction house (right now you can just browse), and craft items (currently, only browsing recipes is available). This is all on top of already being able to examine character profiles and gear and chat with friends who are online. Here are some screenshots of next Fallen Earth app for iPhone, along with a couple of snaps from the BlackBerry version.

I definitely dug the game, and could see the mobile companion being helpful for staying connected, but sometimes it would be nice to be able to use it while you’re actually playing the game. The mobile app requires you to log in to access anything, and doing so kicks you out of the game on the PC side. Things like maps, profiles, and recipes would be nice to access while you’re playing, but still, it sure beats World of Warcraft charging another $2.99/month for mobile auction handling. I’d be especially impressed with the BlackBerry app if they leveraged push alerts to let you know in your messages folder if you’ve been outbid on an item, like with the eBay app. Make sure your APN settings are right, I had some issues getting it to work on my Bold 9000.

Links to BlackBerry, Android, and iPhone Fallen Earth Mobile Companions are below, and more info on all of the above can be found at their FAQ. Just remember that the PC game itself is subscription-based, and costs $14.99/month.
