France Telecom is super optimistic about the prospects of its mobile arm, Orange, and plans to have 300 million customers by 2015, up from 200 million today. The company’s new CEO, Stephane Richard, recently presented a five-year plan that among other things discusses operator’s plans for its domestic market.
Orange must improve its reputation in France after a couple of employee suicides. The new measures for workers will cost company 900 million EUR. Moreover, the plan is to hire 10,000 additional workers by the end of 2012 to compensate for the rising average age of employees in France. “In France almost half of workers will leave the group by 2018 as they reach retirement age so we must anticipate this,” Richard told French newspaper Le Parisien.
What’s different in Orange’s strategy is that the new plan will include partnering with content providers, as opposed to direct acquisition of content rights…
We’ll definitely keep our eyes on Orange and other major operator groups and keep you folks in the loop on the latest news. Stay tuned…
