We’ve seen a few stills and a staged demo of RIM’s Webkit browser to be launched with BlackBerry OS 6, but now we’ve got a slightly more in-depth tour of the new BlackBerry browser
The start screen looks a little rearranged, but all of the parts of the original browser are still there (search, history, bookmarks). Pinch-zooming and tabbed browsing seem to be operating well enough, but page rendering speeds and smoothness don’t seem especially improved, especially when compared to iPhone and Android browsers. To be fair, this is still pre-release, and there’s still plenty of time for RIM to make improvements before the rumoured late summer launch of the BlackBerry Bold/Torch 9800 slider and OS 6.
What do you guys think – enough of a leap to make RIM a sufficient contender, on par with Safari as they were claiming last summer?
