India’s Tata DOCOMO is introducing a cool voice plan called “Voice Free,” which includes 40 local minutes (2,400 seconds) per day. The new plan is initially offered to the carrier’s customers in Andhra Pradesh, where interested folks can grab the the “Voice Free Recharge” in three denominations of Rs. 200, Rs. 350 and Rs. 500, with a validity of 10, 20 and 30 days, respectively.
According to Mr. NV Subbarao, Regional Head, South-East, Tata DOCOMO – in addition to providing affordable phone calls, the goal of this plan is also to ramp up mobile internet use. GPRS data will be available for 1 Paise per 1 KB, which sounds like a bargain to me.
Finally, Tata DOCOMO reminds us of their other innovative offers such as “Pay Per Sec,” “Buddy Net,” “Daily Plans” and “My Song”.
Personally, I think such a plan which would include a fixed number of minutes per day would work everywhere, not just in an emerging market like India…
