The iPhone Dev Team has released an update to their ultrasn0w carrier unlock tool for the iPhone! Excited? Well, allow us to crush that sentiment. The ultrasn0w unlocking utility has today been updated from v0.91 to v0.92, and is only intended for the iOS 3.1.x operating systems for iPhones still using the old 04.26 baseband firmware. This is not the re-written ultrasn0w that will unlock your iPhone 4 to use with any GSM carrier in the world. Sorry, them’s the breaks.
So, what’s the point in updating the ultrasn0w software for older iPhones and the older iOS 3.1.x? Well, as The Dev Team puts it:
…ultrasn0w update that fixes an issue for those running firmware 3.1.x with the 04.26 baseband. That specific combination resulted in a missing carrier name in the upper left-hand corner of your home screen. Today’s ultrasn0w update from 0.91 to 0.92 fixes that problem (which was an important issue for roaming). You should see the update available if you have http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com as a Cydia source. Enjoy!
That’s all for now. All you iPhone 4 users patiently waiting on The Team to release their new ultrasn0w tool will have to continue waiting. We’ll let you know when it goes live. Stay tuned!
