Right on cue, AT&T has released its U-verse iPhone app and the program enables U-verse customers to download their shows and watch them on the go without a data connection.
The AT&T U-verse Apple iPhone app enables users to sync with their home DVR service and download shows and movies over WiFi. You’ll then be able to watch your recorded content on your handset without having to worry about data coverage.
The Apple iPhone app also enables users to program their DVR on the go, as well as view content schedules. You’ll need to be a U-verse subscriber, of course, and you need the U300 package or higher.
“Our U-verse multi-screen promise is now a reality for millions of U-verse TV customers, with content available on U-verse TV, U-verse Online, and today, U-verse Mobile,” said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T, in a prepared statement. “No cable provider comes close to matching the cross-platform experience we’re delivering today, and we’ll continue to add unique features that further integrate these screens.”
This is just the latest move by cable providers to bring television content to mobile devices, as Dish Network plans to bring live, streaming TV to Apple iPhone, Google Android and Research In Motion’s BlackBerry. This will be available to existing customers through apps and it will have the benefit of being live content, although that could be a battery killer.
Comcast already has an iPhone app which enables users to record their DVRs on the go and I would imagine it will only be a matter of time before it allows some form of video content on mobile phones. There’s no word on if it will be streaming, downloaded or both.
We saw the AT&T U-verse Apple iPhone app demonstrated at the CTIA show and you can check out a demonstration video of it below.
