Sprint Palm Pre and Pixi owners waiting for webOS 1.4.5 may have cause to rejoice as this latest update is supposedly rolling out to handsets starting today. The news came way of Sprint which updated its Pre and Pixi webOS changelog with version 1.4.5 details and confirmed the August 10th release date.
For those keeping track, the changes in this update are mostly bug fixes and performance improvements for these two SPrint smartphones. There is no mention of PDK support, which is a major enhancement for the Palm Pre and enables mobile gaming on the platform. We presume this feature is included but not detailed as this changelog appears on Sprint’s support site and covers Sprint-oriented changes. In sum, these changes for the Sprint Pre and the Pixi include:
- Web podcasts download correctly
- Correct entry of text on Web
- Sprint branded default email signature corrected
- Power use and battery optimization
- Send video via multimedia messaging from Video application
- Video trim feature now works to send in a message
- SprintTV upgrade to V 3.5.4 and enhanced parental controls
Sprint customers need only check their handset and wait for the update to be pushed over-the-air. If you can’t stand the wait, you can always manually check for the update by opening the app launcher and launching the” Updates” application which will detect, download, and install the update on your behalf.
While Sprint Pre and Pixi customers are enjoying the improvements offered by webOS 1.4.5, Verizon Wireless and AT&T customers are still waiting for this update to hit their handsets. No word on when these carrier-specific updates will drop but if the past is any indication, the Verizon and AT&T versions will hit within the month. While you wait, you can always prepare for these ensuing changes by reading the feedback posted by your Sprint brethren. Any Sprint Pixi or Pre owners care to get the ball rolling by leaving your first impressions in the comments?
