Astraware has been making games since its Zap 2000 game launched on Palm OS back in 1998. The mobile gaming company has ported its games to almost all major mobile platforms including Windows Mobile, iPhone, Blackberry and Android. As early as next week, Astraware may be able to add webOS to this growing list. The game developer has been dropping hints on Twitter and its website that it has two games in the immediate pipeline for the Palm Pre and plans to release more in the future.
Astrware declined to name names but the developer’s web site lists OddBlob, Astraware Casino, and Astraware Sudoku as coming soon. A previous rumor also suggests that Astraware is working on Police Range, Astraware Solitaire, and Astrware Boardgames for the webOS platform. Astraware confirmed via Twitter that they will be adding titles in groups of two over the coming months and the first two titles were submitted last week. Astraware also hinted that it is working closely with Palm on these submissions and expects to make a formal announcement as early as the upcoming week.
Based upon twitter conversations, OddBlob and Astraware Sudoku are the two titles most likely to hit the Pre first. Unfortunately, at first glance, some of these titles seem destined to hit the Pre only and not the Pixi. The system requirements for Sudoku require the native 320×480 screen resolution of the Palm Pre and Pre Plus and not the 320×400 resolution of the Pixi. All the games will also require webOS 1.4.5 which, thus far, has hit Europe and only the Sprint Palm Pre and Pixi in the US. Verizon and AT&T webOS owners will have to wait until their carriers show them webOS 1.4.5 love before they can get their game on. Anyone with a Palm Pre, regular or plus version, excited by this news?
