If you had any doubt that the HTC Desire HD, also known as the HTC Ace was right around the corner, this may dissolve that doubt. The handset appeared on the Amazon UK site earlier today, and was pulled once people got word of it.
The Desire HD looks like this will cost around £415 ($650), which isn’t that bad for an unlocked phone these days, especially with the specs we think this bad boy may have under the hood. If the US variant of the device comes in the form of the MyTouch 3G HD, we may have a little longer to wait until we get our hands on it, but all we’re running on is rumors at this point.
The device has the spec sheet (from what we know) of the Sprint EVO 4G, and may indeed just be the GSM version, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the HD shipped with the Super LCD display that HTC has recently said it would begin using instead of AMOLED displays because of supply constraints. The device looks like it will be sold through Amazon UK directly, instead of a third-party retailer going through Amazon. Let’s hope that when it does actually become available that there will be plenty of the handsets in stock for the UK buyers out there.
Though the Desire HD is a much-anticipated device, we’re expecting it still come with the standard specs that you’ll find on a high-end smartphone today. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing in any way, but don’t expect it to have anything we haven’t seen before. We’ve got a couple of weeks until HTC’s event in London, and we’re wondering what will actually be announced. Will it be the Desire HD, the T-Mobile G2, or the Mozart?
