Rogers is embracing a new model for BlackBerry plans (without so much as a peep about it on the Redboard or Twitter feed). The new $40 and $55 monthly pay as you go BlackBerry plans include voicemail, call display, call waiting, unlimited text, unlimited instant messaging and either unlimited e-mail or social networking. The main difference between the two plans is that the $40 only gives unlimited local calling from 3 – 6 PM, while the $55 dealie has fully unlimited evenings and weekends. Any calls outside of that timeframe is $0.25/minute, and top-ups start at $10.
Though overall you’re paying about $25 more per month, you’re not locked into a three-year contract – probably an ideal situation for those coming from out of town for awhile and want to avoid roaming fees. Though it would be nice to see something a little cheaper, options are always good, and I’d be interested in seeing how popular PAYG BlackBerry plans will be here in Canada. The only other place I’ve heard of trying that kind of thing is Orange in the UK.
