The last we had heard about a general release date of the BlackBerry Bold 9780 suggested October, but a fresh undocumented rumour is pointing to a later release in November for Rogers. That October launch date might still hold true for, say, AT&T, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the U.S. get first dibs – just look at the Torch. Vodafone UK is also likely to snag the updated Bold, probably with a similar delay as Canada.
The BlackBerry 9780 will be a minor refresh on the Bold 9700, including a bump up in camera to 5 megapixels, increased memory totalling 512 MB, and launching with OS 6, while all the rest (HVGA display, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G) remain the same. We’ve seen OS 6 running on a 9700 and RIM has confirmed backwards compatibility, so those with the earlier Bold won’t have to worry that they’ll be locked out from universal search and some nice UI improvements when the 9780 comes out.
We’ve already seen the BlackBerry 9780 running on Rogers, so it’s not entirely a surprise to hear it’s coming to Canada (even if the pictured version was an unbranded and unlocked device).
