Vodafone has launched an all-you-can-eat mobile gaming service in Europe, allowing feature phone owners to download and play as many Java ME games as they like for just 5 EUR (3.5 GBP) per month. In terms of handsets supported, the new service works on the Nokia E65, N85, N95 8GB, N95, N78, N81, N97 Mini, N97, 6303, 6700, E51, E71, N96; Samsung S8300, F480, L810; Sony Ericsson C902, C905, W910i, C510, W715 and W890i.
Once you’re done with playing, the digital rights management code embedded in each app will make sure you can’t play the game anymore.
Publishers one their end will get a portion of the revenue, based on how many downloads and plays their game received…
Sounds like a great deal to me, something like services such as eGames and GameFly already do for the desktop and console games and I’m wondering whether that model can fly on mobile phones as well. I certainly hope it does, as I would definitely be interested. What do you think?
