As hinted at a few weeks ago, the desktop client for Skype has been updated to integrate with your Facebook phonebook, enabling texting and calling friends on the social network from the app. The partnership has borne a few other features, like a bundled News Feed reader, complete with commenting and liking capabilities. They’ve also launched group video calling between users, which is pretty huge and gives us some hope for some kind of mobile implementation down the line.
This is all well and good, but what we would really like to see are these features translated to the newly-liberated Android application. Well, group video calling might be asking for a little much, even within a Wi-Fi hotspot, but a quick tie-in between the native address book, Facebook contacts, and the Skype mobile app shouldn’t be too hard to implement.
For those who want to upgrade or get started, head over to their homepage to start downloading. Just keep in mind these new features are for Windows only. Tough break, Mac people. Here’s another screenshot showing the call/text shortcuts from the integrated Facebook news feed.
