After NASA, Gowalla has found another prominent partner to help it support (and promote) its check-in service. This time their “partner in crime” is The Associated Press and the two companies teamed-up for the University Check-In Challenge to allow Gowalla users to win a $10,000 scholarship for their college as well as some cool awards for themselves, including the brand new MacBook Air, iPad, free pizzas, gift cards and more.
To participate, students (and alumni, school supporters, anyone!) should check in daily at any of five designated Gowalla spots on their campus and watch the check-ins pile up for their school. Already, there are over 75 universities with featured stamps on Gowalla, including more than 30 uni stadiums. The university with the most check-ins on Gowalla at the end of the regular season will receive a $10,000 donation to their general scholarship fund!
Gowalla on its end will update school rankings nightly, and the AP will update the rankings weekly alongside their own AP Top 25 Football Rankings…
