Sony Ericsson looks like they’re on the verge of finally releasing Android 2.1 for the Xperia X10. Following-up on some simple feature demos by their resident blogger, they’ve posted a fresh video that has all the marketing magic infused in it. All of the usual Android 2.1 stuff is there, like extra home screens, unified inbox, and live wallpapers, but on top of that, the virtual keyboard and Timescape have had a refresh, the camera can now record in HD, and a new backup and restore app keeps your data safe.
If you’ve never met the X10, it’s an Android handset that actually looks great on paper: 4″ 480 x 854 touchscreen, 8 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G, along with some interesting custom applications. Since the X10 was announced, there have been several handsets that have matched or exceeded the X10, but it’s good to see Sony Ericsson is sticking to it with updates.
Although we weren’t especially impressed with the Xperia X10, a big part of its problems was the software, which this update will hopefully fix. Check out the new video below, and some other less flashy (but more realistic) demos afterwards.
