Reckless Racing HD for iPad is Full Throttle Fun

Reckless Racing HD for iPad

I first stumbled across Reckless Racing while doing some random game browsing last week. After reading the description, checking out some of the reviews, and watching some gameplay trailers… I had to give it a spin… and I’m glad I did.

After purchasing the ‘HD’ version for iPad, I was almost immediately hooked. The graphics are absolutely stunning, and the sounds and ease of play are top notch.

To start, there’s numerous control options. The first option places standard left/right and accelerator/brake buttons on-screen, and this is actually the control method I prefer best. However, if on-screen buttons ain’t your thing, there’s 4 other options available, including a tilt, full wheel and ‘tank’ option. Test them all out to see what you prefer.

As far as the game is concerned, there’s 3 gameplay modes for the single player. The first is a rough and ragged Dirt Rally, in which you race around the highly detailed tracks, trying as you might to cross the finish line before the rest. It’s really fun to drift your car around these tracks, and as you get the feel for the controls, you can do some really neat things with your car.

Another option is the ‘Hot Lap’ time trial, in which you try and post the fastest lap as you can, with no one else on the track. A ‘ghost’ car plays out on-screen to show you where you are in relation to your best time… Very cool.

Finally, the ‘Delivery’ mode is a neat little twist. In this mode it’s up to you to pick up items, and deliver them to the destination. Item pick ups and drop off points are shown on the track map, and the quicker you can deliver the goods, the more money you’ll make. It’s good fun.

With all that goodness said, there are some things I’d like to see in future updates to Reckless Racing:

  1. More car and character options
  2. More tracks
  3. More online play options and features (current multiplayer > online play mode is OK, but not great)

Yeah, that’s right… basically more of everything! EA and PixelBite have laid a solid base for this game, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they continue to build and polish this one until it can’t be polished no more. Or something.

You get the idea. If you love racing games, you’re probably going to want to give this a spin on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.
