Samsung Mesmerize rooted in its first day

The Samsung Mesmerize was released just yesterday on US Cellular and it’s already had its Android OS officially rooted. How we wish the G2 could have seen this so soon after launch, but we’ll make do with seeing this root method hit the newest Galaxy S phone in the US. At least some new phones are being permanently rooted these days.

The method used on the Mesmerize is about as easy as it gets. The piece of software you’ll need is called SuperOneClick. The program roots many different phones, not just Galaxy S devices, and has wide native support for a handful of operating systems. Windows XP and OSX users need to download some extra files to get the program up and running, but after that, it should be smooth sailing. The guys over at Android Central took on the task and walked away rooted. Good work.

If you’re unaware of what the Mesmerize is, it’s yet another Galaxy S device, similar to the Fascinate on Verizon, but without Bing as the default search engine. It sports the now expected 4-inch Super AMOLED display seen on all Galaxy S devices, and Samsung’s very own Hummingbird processor clocked at 1GHz. If 1GHz isn’t fast enough for you, don’t worry, as some of these handsets have hit a 1.6GHz CPU overclock, but the CDMA devices may need to wait a bit before seeing any overclock solutions going live.

We can’t say we’re too surprised about how fast this handset was rooted, as it looks like US Cellular put no effort into blocking any root attempts. So if you’re hankering for some root-only apps, and the potential to flash your own customized ROMs on the Mesmerize, you may want to give this a go. That said, rooting a device voids the warranty, and although the Android community has come a long way in hacking phones, there’s always a possibility that you could brick your phone. That’s our obligatory warning, now go root your Mesmerize!
