motorola droid 2 get an update to fix many issues

As almost every Android geek is patiently awaiting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, Verizon is rolling out a minor Android software update to the Motorola Droid 2. The software version is 2.3.20.A955, but not the 2.3 we’ve been waiting for. The update provides many fixes that any Droid 2 owner will be happy for, but it’s definitely not the much anticipated Gingerbread release.

The update is said to come with improvements for battery life, the proximity sensor, faster GPS location fixes, and new features such as allowing users to add a photo from the Gallery to use as a contact photo. It’s a little surprising that the Droid 2 seems to have so many issues. Nonetheless, this update looks like it should be able to take care of a handful of these issues that users were experiencing.

Here’s a rundown of everything the new update will bring to your handset,

Improvements:
+ Improved battery life.
+ Heightened proximity sensor accuracy to enable faster
screen response.
+ View the Weather widget in both landscape and
portrait orientation.
+ Simpler setup, improved user interactions, and better
notifications for Visual Voice Mail.
+ Background Email Sync during display inactivity for better
user experience.
+ Support for email domain suffixes containing more than
three characters.
+ Keep text messages organized with chronological in-box screen.
+ Edit text messages after you’ve inserted a video file.
+ Improved audio sound during recorded video playbacks.
+ Stream Guided Tour videos on device in Help Center application
with ease.
+ Faster location tracking during GPS navigation.

Enhancements:
+ New ability to add pictures from your Gallery to a contact.
+ Export all your contacts to the SD card.

It looks like Motorola has been keeping themselves quite busy trying to get this update up and out, as it fixes many problems, and any user would be happy to get this one.

The update is rolling out as we speak, but you may have to wait a bit before it hits your D2. In the meanwhile, you can check for the update by going into the settings, about phone, system update.

If you’ve received the update, how are you liking it so far?
