Motorola is attempting to woo the Blackberry folk with their upcoming Droid Pro Android smartphone for Verizon. So, it makes sense that the company take things one step further to appease businesses by offering a Droid Pro without a camera. According to newly leaked docs, a camera-less Droid Pro may be on the way.
The enterprise market is dominated by Blackberry users, with some Windows Mobile devices thrown in, and both give camera-less handset options for high-security jobs. So, why wouldn’t Motorola offer such an option? They are obviously gunning for the Blackberry user, and offering a Droid Pro without a camera will help them cover all the bases (and their asses) to make sure they can cater to the market.
The Droid Pro oozes business from a hardware standpoint, but we’re still wondering why the handset ships with Motoblur, which we’ve always thought looked like it was aimed for a much younger demographic. That said, the Pro ships with the much toned-down version of Motoblur that we’ve seen on devices like the Droid 2 and Droid X, and the experience is quite a few steps above what you’d find on the Motorola CLIQ or Devour.
Even without a camera, the Droid Pro is still one solid piece of phone. It ships with a 3.1 inch HVGA display, 1GHz processor, Android 2.2 (which will allow for Flash support), 8GB of internal memory, and a hot-swappable MicroSD card slot. We didn’t get the exact amount of external storage that ships with the phone, but from our hands-on video we saw that the Pro came with a 16GB MicroSD card. We’re not sure if that’s final, bit we expect that a 16GB microSD card will likely ship with the phone when it launches early next month.
Motorola’s Droid Pro should definitely sway many business users away from their Blackberrys, but we’re really going to have to wait to see how they respond. Giving a cameraless option maybe not be right for the consumer, but may just be one of the deciding factors when a business decides to purchase handsets for their company.
