Location-based services provider Placecast is teaming-up with women’s specialty retailer White House Black Market (WHBM) to launch FashionAlerts and allow shoppers receive text messages from WHBM when they pass through specific geo-fenced areas.
The service works with any feature phone that can receive text messages and is now running in 26 of the retailer’s locations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and Chicago areas. WHBM is recruiting participants through email, Facebook and Twitter. Interested customers can join through a double opt-in process to receive the alerts and once activated – FashionAlerts will automatically notify a consumer if she has entered a WHBM geo-fenced area.
WHBM’s plan is to promote upcoming in-store sales, online promotions, new product releases, sweepstakes and style tips.
The new service is based on Placecast’s ShopAlerts program, which has been put to the test for over a year. During the beta period last fall, it got positive user receptivity and retail engagement as well as incredibly low opt-out rates…
