Samsung Galaxy Tab Parts Cost $205

The cost in parts for the Samasung Galaxy Tab have been tallied up by iSuppli and the total comes out to $205. Before you get all outraged about paying $499 for it at AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, or Verizon, keep in mind that iSuppli’s figure doesn’t take into account retail markups, and other costs of doing business (though the $9.35 in related manufacturing costs are in there to put the total to $214).

For those unfamiliar, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is the world’s first major Android tablet (to be followed by a torrent of others). It runs Android 2.2, has a 7″ 1024 x 600 capacitive touchscreen, 3 megapixel camera plus secondary video conferencing camera, 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, and 512 MB of RAM. Yeah, you can use it as a phone, but I wouldn’t without a headset.

The iPad, by comparison, costs $260, but not only is it 2″ bigger, iSuppli also notes “the Galaxy Tab’s screen resolution, size and technology are not at the same level as the iPad.” They say that from a parts perspective, the Galaxy Tab is little more than a giant version of the Galaxy S series phones, which works out fine since it keeps costs down. Quality versus the iPad aside, the Galaxy Tab will be the only option really available for those unwilling to bend to Apple’s will, or those with a particular preference for Android.

Below you can find the full list of parts, and if you want to see how all those parts work together, take a look at our hands-on on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Android tablet.

Cost of the parts is only 1 small piece of the entire cost of getting the finished product to the consumer. Start with trying to recoupe the costs of R&D, developement, and manufacturing setup…add all factory costs to build the unit, shipping, storage, distribution, advertizing, and insurance every step of the way and the “cost” to have it completed and delivered into the stores is actually quite substantial.
