Rumour has it that music ID application SoundHound has reached a global partnership with HTC, starting with preloads of the free version of their app on the Desire HD and Desire Z. Neither HTC nor SoundHound has made any announcement just yet, but word has it things will get official this morning.
SoundHound is an awful lot like Shazam, in that you hold up your phone’s microphone to music that’s being played, and after taking a sample, it’s sent off to their servers, identified, and sends back pertinent album, artist, and track information. SoundHound is especially cool in that you can just hum the song, and SoundHound has a good chance at getting the song right. SoundHound also provides a shortcut to launch a Pandora station after ID’ing a song, as well as speak instructions for a search, and full lyrics listing.
Shazam, SoundHound’s biggest competitor, struck a similar preload deal with LG in September. Shazam has been around longer, but SoundHound has definitely given them a run for their money, launching Android, iPhone, and iPad apps in quick succession. Download links to both free (ad-supported, only 5 IDs/month) and premium SoundHound apps are below, or you can go to SoundHound’s homepage for a tour around the app.
