Mobile security gets a boost with AVG's acquisition of DroidSecurityAVG Security has just purchased the Android app maker DroidSecurity and the move is another indication that mobile security is becoming a big deal.

Many of you may know AVG as a provider of desktop malware software and DroidSecurity is best known for its suite of Android-based security products. The move will help AVG target the growing number of smartphones and tablets which will use the little, green robot.

“The potential that exists within the mobile space is extraordinary, and we predict that devices like smart phones will overtake PCs in 2012,” said J.R. Smith, chief executive officer, AVG, in a prepared statement. “AVG acquired DroidSecurity to accelerate our delivery of sophisticated mobile security and provide users around the world with the reliable and secure technology they need to confidently mitigate the risks associated with using mobile devices.”

The move comes as the mobile security space is becoming a larger area of interest. As more and more people carry important information on smartphones, malicious hackers are going to continue to target these mobile devices.

That’s why we’re seeing big players like Symantec making a bigger push with mobile security. The company is bringing its security lineup to the Android, Apple iPhone and iPad.

Even smaller mobile security companies like Lookout are doing pretty well, as it now has over 2 million users and it just introduced premium services.
