I bet that on Steve Slater’s last day of work at JetBlue he probably wanted to text friends and family before landing, “OMG get me outta here!!” And now the infamous hero-turned-pariah is going to be helping Line2, the VoIP service that allows calls over Wi-Fi and 3G for smartphones, with its new promotion – the “Mile High Text Club.”
Line2 has introduced the ability to send text messages on flights that are equipped with Wi-Fi, but why the decision to employ Steve Slater? Line2 CEO Peter Sisson says, ““After talking with Steven, I realized that despite his dramatic approach – which he regrets – he was making a statement about the need to return civility and common courtesy to flying. He’s a perfect judge for a contest concerning the current state of air travel.”
How does this “Mile High Club” contest work? Well, apparently the idea is that passengers will text stories of their craziest flight experiences to 222-222-2222 to win prizes, with a grand prize of a weekend shopping spree in New York City.
