It looks lime the long 3 month road that Epic Games’ Infinity Blade has been on will soon be at an end as the game will be hitting the App Store soon. How soon? How about December 9th? Yes, THAT soon.

If you recall, Infinity Blade was first announced back in September as “Project Sword” during Apple’s iOS 4.1 press conference, and on that very day, released Epic Citadel which I called “jaw dropping” as it served as a tech demo to showcase what the game would look like running Epic’s Unreal Engine. Then, Epic Games announced they renamed the game to Infinity Blade as well as releasing some new details and a trailer.

Now that you’re all caught up with the road Infinity Blade has traveled, on to today’s release date news and details. First off, Infinity Blade will retail for $5.99 and will be a universal app, which means players will pay one price for both iPhone and iPad copies of Infinity Blade. And in case you were wondering, Infinity Blade supports both the iphone 3GS and iPhone 4. The game will feature a single-player campaign where players will fight through a fully rendered 3D castle with an intuitive combat interface and simple touch controls that will allow for both casual and hardcore gamers to combat a number of bosses with “adrenaline-fueled sword battles.” Players will be able to build their stats with experience gained through combat as well as earn more powerful items to prepare for the final boss, the God-King.

As fun the game sounds, it would be very awesome if players could take what they’ve learned from Infinity Blade and combat other players in epic sword dueling action. When the game releases on Dec. 9th, it won’t have a multiplayer component, but Epic Games plans on releasing a future update for free which will allow players to find friends or other challengers to battle online via Game Center. When the update will be released is unknown at this time, but the extra time will allow players to hone their sword combat skills. So get a lot of practice in, kiddie, because I expect some serious competition when the update releases.
