HTC Merge accessories appear, still no launch date on phone itself

We’ve been expecting the HTC Merge to be announced for some time now, and just when it seemed likely that it would happen, it never did. Now with the appearance of a Merge case popping up, the handset has got to be announced sometime soon, right?

When we heard of the Droid Incredible’s relaunching party, there were some hints that the Merge would also be announced at the same time. The party came and went with no Merge announcement, and many were left wondering why? We’re not certain, but there’ve been rumors that the handset has been delayed to give it time to bake some LTE goodness into the hardware. But, since we have no clue what Verizon is doing, all we have is time to speculate.

As more about the Merge comes to the surface, the smartphone is definitely building up some hype. We’re sure that some people have been sold on this handset since we saw it way back when. That said, the Merge needs to stand out, and a revamped Desire Z may not be enough to do it justice. Sure, it’ll be one of the few HTC Sense Android phones with a slide out QWERTY keyboard, but for it to draw attention to us tech geeks it needs something else. 4G LTE data speeds might very well do the trick in that regard.. Without it, it’s just another Droid in a sea of similarly-speced competition.

With accessories starting to pop up, we do hope it will join the rest of the Droids sometime soon, but we’re not sure if it will be soon enough to be an LTE device. The hardware looks good enough, and it will likely have the specs to match.

Let’s hope there’s more than meets the eye with this one. Any thoughts on the Merge?  Leave ’em in the comments!
