In two separate press releases, Opera Software announced that it has signed deals with carriers in Chile and Angola to bring Opera Mini to their [carriers’] users.
Entel Chile, in association with Vodafone, will be first operator in Latin America to offer Opera Mini with widgets on handsets. Included in the deal is a customized version of the popular mobile web browser and its widget engine, which allows users to perform simple tasks at the click of a button, such as checking weather or updating their status on a social network.
As for Angola, Unitel is their partner in the country. Widgets are not mentioned in this release, so we’re guessing all they [users] will get is Opera Mini. That still means a lot, considering the great web browsing experience Opera Mini brings to the feature phone users…
And in case you care to know numbers, Entel Chile has more than 7 million subscribers, while Unitel’s user base counts over 6 million people.
