Samsung has introduced some LPDDR2 DRAM for smartphones and tablets that it promises will deliver speeds that are similar to what we find on desktops.
The 4 GB version can transfer up to 1,066 Mbps and Samsung says this doubles what the industry standard is. Additionally these chips will only be 30 nanometers thick, which make it perfectly suited for mobile devices like the Galaxy Tab.
The company will offer 8 GB DRAM that stacks two of the 4 GB versions and this could provide less weight with longer battery life.
“The mobile device market is gaining momentum with the advent of tablet PCs, which is adding significantly to the already surging smartphone segment,” said Jun-Young Jeon, vice president, memory product planning team, Samsung Electronics, in a prepared statement. “Samsung will work closely with mobile device designers to bring high-performance, high-density mobile solutions to market as rapidly as possible.”
