Flight Control for iPhone Receives Multiplayer and In-Game Voice Chat Update

It should go without saying that Firemint’s Flight Control has got to be one of the first and most popular titles on both the iPhone and iPad and the team continues to deliver quality updates to the game. Today, Firemint has once again delivered a much needed update along with a surprising one.

A new update just hit the App Store for Flight Control that finally brings online multiplayer to the game through Game Center. You’ll be able to invite a friend to play, or if you lack any Game Center friends, you can easily pick up a game with a random stranger who is also itching to land planes with a fellow Flight Control player. Firemint has also broken one major barrier I was waiting to be broken and that’s allowing in-game voice chat. By default, in-game voice chat is turned off, so you’ll need to enable it in order to discuss flight plans with the other player.

To be honest, I didn’t expect a game like Flight Control would break the in-game voice chat barrier. If I was a betting man, I would have guessed Gameloft would have since in-game voice chat makes more sense in first-person shooters or driving games, which Gameloft currently delivers some of the best in both categories. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy Flight Control will now have voice chat as I plan to rage against other players who “accidentally” aim their 747 into my ridiculously slow helicopter. I don’t care if my partner IS a 7 year old boy from Lithuania, all I know is that he better know how to keep his birds in the sky while I bring my planes in for a safe landing or he’s getting an earful of rage.

Hopefully this in-game voice chat update will spark more developers to deliver an update of their own as I think this is a much needed update on the majority of games in the App Store since there’s currently no proper way to communicate with players.
