With its new Thoughts iPhone app, Jawbone is trying to combine the power of voice with the convenience of text messages. Think of it like text messaging for your voice or something less confusing.
The Thoughts iPhone app enables you to send voice messages up to a minute in length. You’ll be able to send these to groups, as well as to individuals. If you don’t have time to listen to the message, the app can transcribe the message to text.
“We live in a world that is 100% mobile, 100% connected and unfortunately 150% distracted. Reading and typing doesn’t work when you need your hands and eyes to navigate the physical world. While there has been a tremendous amount of innovation in text based messaging, all of it lacks the richness of voice,” explains Travis Bogard, Vice President of Product Management and Strategy at Jawbone, in a prepared statement. “Thoughts is our solution to these realities by integrating all the things we love from text-based communications with the power of voice. We think it’s a really powerful way to share ideas quickly.”
I remember playing with the Pana.ma app for Android and this also offers a way to send these short voice messages. I found it useful for a little while, but I ran into a wall because none of my real friends used the service for long.
The Jawbone Thoughts iPhone app may have a little better chance of getting to the mainstream because the voice messaging service will also probably work with its line of headsets. This program is also being talked about my many publications, so it should have strong initial interest.
You can try the free Jawbone Thoughts iPhone app here from the App Store.
