DailyBooth is a novel service that asks users to snap a picture of themselves using the webcam that comes built-in with many of the new laptops that are hitting the market. Apple, deciding to put a front facing camera on both the iPhone 4 and the new iPod touch, gave the folks at DailyBooth a reason to totally rewrite their application to support said camera and yesterday they released the final result. Also announced was that work has begun on a version of DailyBooth for Android, which as of the latest release, version 2.3 Gingerbread, has support for multiple cameras.
If you’re living abroad and you want to show your parents that you’re alive and eating well, or you’re in a long distance relationship, this type of application is the perfect way to let loved ones see your face and how it changes as time marches on. If you’re like me, then you get a lot of grief from your parents over how exhausted and pale you look over the winter, and how drunk and wasted you look over the summer. With DailyBooth I now save myself a phone call, an email, and a long winded apology on living the life of a freelancer in his 20s.
Other uses for DailyBooth include monitoring how your newborn child is growing, or a puppy, or a new house plant, or anything else really, as long as it gets larger and larger by such a small amount that daily documentation is needed in order to even spot any differences. Give this app a try and let us know what you think of it in the comments below. Hopefully the next iPad will have a front facing camera, then you’ll really be able to appreciate the wrinkles in your face that are growing in number year after year.
