With Capcom’s Street Fighter IV making its way to the iPhone last March, I’m not surprised that another much beloved fighting series would be making its way to the iPhone as well. That game, is of course, Mortal Kombat.
The source of the rumor comes from KnowYourMobile who were able to get some cam footage of the game in action during a studio visit at EA’s London office. The game that was shown was Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, which might very well be the best Mortal Kombat out of the entire series. There are 13 characters included in the game, 2 of which are boss characters. The game is said to run very smooth with all of the characters remodelled in 3D, giving the characters more detail while staying true to how each character moves.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 will feature 4 game modes: Arcade, Shao Karnage, Survival and Multiplayer. If you played a Mortal Kombat game, you’ll be familiar with Arcade mode as you pick any of the available characters to fight in one-on-one battles until you complete the game by “Finishing” the final boss. Shao Karnage is a new mode in the Mortal Kombat series and it allows you to play as Shao Kahn, although I wonder who would be the final boss in that mode. Would Shao Kahn need to fight… HIMSELF?
Moving on to the last two modes: Survival and Multiplayer. Survival has you fighting your enemies one after another without your health replenishing. The concept of this mode is to see how far you can get without being “Finished.” As for the final mode, no Mortal Kombat game would be complete without a little multiplayer action. Unfortunately, as with Street Fighter IV, there isn’t any online multiplayer, but there is local multiplayer through Bluetooth or local Wi-Fi.
We reached out to EA Mobile to confirm if Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is indeed coming to the iPhone as we have yet to hear of its availability. Once we get the official word, we’ll be sure to update you.
