The Swiss Broadcasting Company recently launched an iPad application designed to showcase articles, photo slideshows, videos and the latest Swiss news. While the app may be an excellent resource for residents of Switzerland, the advertisement for this application is genius. The ad tells the story of Swiss folk hero William Tell in an animated, cardboard cut-out format. Early in the story, the ad pays homage to Apple by removing the trademark bite from the apple that is shot off his son’s head with an arrow fired by Tell himself. Not wanting to play favorites, the creators of this advertisement also managed to sneak in an Android reference. During a rebellion scene, William Tell leads an army that includes a variety of armor-clad rebels, one of which is an unmistakable green robot. Android fans will want to look closely at the 39 second point to see if they can find their beloved mascot in the crowd. Apple fans, well, you may want to close your eyes lest the image of that Android robot be seared into your mind for the rest of your life. [Via Pointgphone and the SBC]
