A quick note here for all of the Canadians out there looking for a new mobile contract before the end of the year. Turns out that all of the ‘big 3’ wireless carriers in Canada are all waiving their activation fee until the end of the month.
TELUS calls it an ‘account setup charge’, Bell calls it their ‘connection charge’, and Rogers stays true to the standard ‘activation fee’ nomenclature… but in the end the deal is the same no matter what carrier you go to. The carrier will waive the fee, putting an extra $35 back in your pocket. Sort of. In most cases the carrier tacks the $35 to your account in the form of a credit.
Of course, you’ll need to meet the carriers stipulations to receive the $35 credit, and in most cases that means you’ll need to signup for a new, long term contract. If $35 isn’t enough incentive to get you to sign-up for a long 3-year term, then don’t do it. However, if you’re dying to hop into a new iPhone 4, or something along those lines, an extra $35 is better than a kick in the pants with your skates on.
For all the details be sure to give your local TELUS, Bell or Rogers store a call. The representative in-store should know all of the ins and outs of this credit. If you want it, get ready to ink your name to a new long-term deal.
