Yelp has just released an iPad app and you might want to be careful about how much you use it because you may just drool all over your large screen.
The Yelp iPad app is a foodie’s delight, as it offers high-quality image layouts which could easily qualify as food porn. The pictures are laid out well and, depending on the quality of the shot itself, can look delicious on your tablet. There’s also a photos tab for viewing results and it just looks gorgeous.
You’ll be able to use the Yelp iPad app in landscape and portrait mode and there’s a neat dual-pane viewing mode to search for businesses. As you’d expect, you’re able to find local and not-so-local restaurants, read and write reviews, bookmark venues and share locations via Twitter or Facebook.
I guess being able to write a review is a cool new thing, as the iPhone version still doesn’t allow you to. One thing missing in the Yelp iPad app is the ability to check-in to locations like you can on the mobile versions.
I guess this makes sense, as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the Apple tablet isn’t mobile, so I don’t know how many people would want to drag it along to restaurants. Still, check-ins give you access to deals and I know I’ve had my iPad while eating lunch at certain places.
While there are a lot of contenders in the food app game (Foodspotting is gaining some traction), I still rely on Yelp for most of my needs. This new tablet version of the app looks delicious and it will come in handy when I’m planning out places to try in the future.
You can download the Yelp iPad app here (iTunes link) and it will automatically detect if you’re trying to get it for an iPhone or the tablet.
