When it comes to bang for your buck, you really can’t beat something that’s free. That’s why Sprint wants you to know that they’re offering would-be Android users a new Sanyo Zio for absolutely nothing when you buy the phone online for the next couple weeks. That means you can get your hands on the Sanyo Zio’s 3.5-inch curved WVGA touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera, and its slim and lightweight form-factor for free when you purchase the handset online. The only catch is that you have to buy it online here.
The Zio is an impressive mid-range Android phone with a 3.5-inch WVGA screen, 600 MHz processor, and 3.2-megapixel camera. It comes with Android 2.1 OS, which isn’t the latest and greatest from Mountain View, but it still packs a punch. It also comes with Sprint ID support, allowing you to quickly switch between homescreen profiles that can be individually customized with various apps, widgets, and shortcuts on the homescreen – say, one homescreen for work, one for play, one for vacation, and one for your or your significant other’s birthday. Sprint says it will soon update their curvy and sleek mid-ranger to Android 2.2 OS, although we’re still not told when, exactly, that will happen.
From now through January 8th, 2011, Sprint will front you a $100 mail-in rebate on the Sanyo Zio when you buy the handset through Sprint.com. Since the handset is normally priced at about $100, you basically walk away from this deal without having to pay anything out of pocket. You will have to sign up for a new 2-year contract with Big Yellow, but that’s pretty much par for the course with deals like this anyway.
