WiMax went live in San Francisco today for both Sprint and Clear, since they both share infrastructure, and it’s nice to see the tech hub getting a little 4G love. We already knew that it would be coming, but now San Francisco Bay Area residents can enjoy Clear 4G products like USB modems and mobile hotspots.
My experience with Clear 4G has been good so far in New York City, so perhaps folks in the Bay Area will see similar results. On average, WiMax users get about 3-6Mbps download speeds with peaks of 9-12Mbps under the most optimal conditions. I’ve seen upload speeds of about 1-3Mbps with the average being on the lower end of that range, but it’s still pretty good when on the go.
