We were expecting to see the Sony Ericsson Xperia X12 at CES this week, and prior to any official announcement, two full marketing videos and a batch of stills has squeaked their way out. As previously speculated, the Xperia Arc (a.k.a. Anzu) will have a Bravia-quality display, which they’re calling the Reality Display, and will include contrast enhancement, noise reduction, sharpness, and colour management. Despite all that great stuff, the slimness of this device is probably going to be its most appealing feature.
All of the previously-speculated specs for the Xperia Arc are the same: 854 x 480, 4.2-inch screen, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 1 GHz processor, and HDMI-out. I think the expectation was for a 12 megapixel camera, but the source of this leak says it’s only 8. I guess we’ll find out soon enough, eh?
This isn’t a huge surprise since we saw the banners prior to CES starting, but we can at least count on some hands-on video in the near future to see if these slick marketing videos bear any resemblance to the real world. It’ll also be interesting to hear about any new software customizations Sony Ericsson has made to Android. Sadly, it’s starting to look like we’ll have to wait until MWC for the Play.
