Scanbuy used the CES to release its latest ScanLife Mobile Barcode Trend Report. We were everything but surprised to learn that mobile barcode scanning is growing among the customers. As a matter of fact, the company is talking about “rapid growth” in mobile barcode scanning in the fourth quarter of 2010, reflecting accelerated adoption of smartphones for shopping, product information and web usage.
Some of the key stats highlighted in the report include:
- Traffic was up 16 times in 2010 overall and doubled since the last Trend Report in September
- UPC scanning outpaced 2D codes as a result of the holiday shopping season
- The largest scan days were the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) and Christmas Day
- The top most used features for people scanning UPC codes are Coupons, Prices and Nutritional Info. Food and Personal Care are the most scanned categories.
- There was a 13% increase in female to male traffic, and a 25% increase in the 25-54 age group.
Data was gathered from the ScanLife Reporting Server which pulls anonymous data from both the ScanLife mobile application, and 3rd party 2D barcode applications on codes that are being published by ScanLife customers and 3rd party generators… You can download the full report in PDF from here.
