EA Mobile Releases Gameplay Video of Dead Space for iPhone

When it was announced last October, Dead Space for the iPhone peaked my interest as I was a big fan of the original game when it was released on console and PC in 2008. The game did an amazing job with its creepy ambiance and the amount of gore and limb loss would make a skilled corner-store butcher turn away in disgust. Its sequel is coming out on Tuesday, but what happened between Dead Space and Dead Space 2? That’s where Dead Space for iPhone comes in as the game takes place between both games. EA Mobile has just released some gameplay footage and the game looks absolutely amazing on the iPhone.

The gameplay footage that EA Mobile released gets right to the point and shows us what the game looks like running on the iPhone. No silly, long-winded explanation of the game, no cutscenes, and no dramatic voice-overs. The gameplay video shows limb damage against enemies will still play a huge part in the Dead Space experience as cutting off the limbs of your enemies weakens them. This is one aspect I was curious to see if it would still play as a vital role in the original game, and I’m happy EA Mobile was able to pull it off.

Dead Space on the iPhone looks to be an ideal platform for the game as Isaac’s HUD can be seen all over his body. For example, his back shows the amount of health he has, while a holographic number displays over his current weapon to indicate his ammo. Keeping the HUD on Isaac is perfect for the iPhone as the rest of the screen can be used to keep the player in the game’s ambiance. Hopefully other developers consider this approach to HUDs in their games in order to cut down on the amount of on-screen buttons.

As of now, there’s been no price or release date for Dead Space iPhone, but if I was a betting man, I’d put my money on the game being released sometime next week when Dead Space 2 is released.
