The trend of porting old games to the iPhone doesn’t stop. Our latest catch is SNES shooter Earth Defense Force, which was originally developed by Jaleco Ltd way back in 1991.
The new iPhone version comes from the Paris-based publisher DotEmu, which decided to keep the old-school “look and feel” of the game all with the retro graphics and sounds. Of course, few things are tweaked here and there to make for a more modern experience.
As you may know, Earth Defense Force is a horizontal shooter game that looks like R-Type, which is probably the most popular title of the genre. Your job is to save the Earth from a horde of aliens, led by the Orbital Buster. There are six levels to enjoy, each ending with the screen-filling big boss.
If you don’t like the original soundtrack, there’s an option to use your own music. Moreover, your best scores can be shared with the world via Game Center…
