Wireless Dynamics and Visa have teamed up to plug NFC into an iPhone and enable wireless transactions in over 40,000 locations across Turkey. All end-users have to do is attach the accessory, launch the app, and tap their phone on a sensor at the store, and they’ll have paid. Generally you won’t even have to enter a PIN number, though for larger purchases and the occasional regular one, you’ll be prompted for the sake of security. The program is coming soon to the rest of Europe, including Italy, France, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, and the U.K.
Although it might seem more intuitive to go with a phone that already has NFC in it, like the Samsung Nexus S, the Wireless Dynamics NFC cases will work with the staggering number of iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4 units already floating around Europe. That being said, now that the app has already been written, it’s just about ready for the iPhone 5 if the thing launches with NFC capabilities. RIM is also looking to get onto the boat with their upcoming lineup of BlackBerry handsets, but that will involve a whole new app from Visa or similarly-huge partners.
There’s no info on how to get started with the program, but Turkcell is providing the cellular support, and the YapiKredi bank is handling points of sale.
