It’s not often that my home province of Manitoba gets thrown in the spotlight here at IntoMobile… and while I’m not saying the province IS in the spotlight, one has to admit there has been a lot going down lately.
First, we found out that TELUS is launching their new HSPA+ network very soon… Then, Rogers followed up with their own announcement. The latest in the continuing saga of updated Manitoba cellular networks has MTS taking the stage. They recently announced that their new HSPA+ network has been confirmed for a March 31st launch.
MTS has invested well over $100 million into this HSPA+ upgrade. Not too shabby. Once complete, peak download speeds could reach 21mbps, and coverage will reach 97% of Manitobans.
Kevin Shephard, President of MTS commented on the news:
“All of us at MTS are incredibly excited about bringing this next generation of wireless service to our Manitoba customers, which will give them faster data speeds as well as access to the best available national and international roaming. We offer Manitoba residents the broadest and most flexible bundling capabilities, the best dealer distribution network and superior customer service – all under the MTS brand that they have come to know and trust.”
While this news is certainly not earth shattering, it IS important for folks in the province. Upgraded networks, improved performance and bolstered device selection will be the result. So, no matter the preferred network of choice, Manitobans should have many great choices ahead of them in the months ahead.
