We know News Corp is looking for ways to sell its once-Facebook-competitor – MySpace. Among the possible candidates to acquire the “once popular” social destination, I always envisioned some other media company like Sony or EMI. Apparently, those folks don’t want to repeat Rupert Murdoch’s mistakes and are leaving it to other players to jump on-board.
MocoSpace, which is the popular entertainment destination on mobile Internet, announced its interest in acquiring MySpace.
Those unfamiliar should know that MocoSpace began as a mobile social network allowing people to find friends and chat. Today it is a full entertainment destination, providing users with access to music, chat, social networking and HTML5 browser-based mobile social gaming.
Last March we reported MocoSpace has reached 11 million users, and then in September that it had raised $3.5 million from SoftBank. At the moment, MocoSpace has about 3 billion page views per month.
MocoSpace shares the same young, multicultural, demographics as MySpace and I presume that’s where they think synergies could be made.
