AT&T may offer a social gaming hub on its upcoming Android handsets. The carrier is rumored to be partnering with OpenFeint, a mobile gaming community that lets users play against one another regardless of platform. OpenFeint boasts of a gaming catalog of 4,500 applications, including high-profile titles such as Fruit Ninja. The gaming network has a social component that lets you post your scores to a leader board and find other members who share your preferences for games. The gaming network is available on Android handsets, iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
After losing its exclusivity for the iPhone in the U.S., AT&T is pushing its upcoming Android handset lineup. Rather than carrying mid-level offerings like the Motorola Backflip, the wireless carrier will be launching several high-end Android handsets, such as the Motorola Atrix 4G and the Samsung Infuse 4G, in the coming months. The Atrix 4G includes a 4-inch display, 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor and HSPA+ connectivity. The Infuse 4G features a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, single-core 1.2GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera and HSPA+ connectivity.
As Verizon pushes into AT&T’s iOS territory and AT&T encroaches on Verizon’s Android turf, these next few months will be very interesting. We have already seen ad network Chitika jump on the carrier comparison bandwagon with its iPhone tracker tool. This newly launched utility monitors the percentage of traffic that is coming from the AT&T iPhone and compares it to the Verizon model. Currently, the AT&T iPhone is ahead by a large margin, but AT&T has been selling various models of the iPhone for several years while the Verizon model has been available for less than a week.
