Texas Instruments is making it a little easier to develop software for Android with what it’s claiming to be the first development platform for Android. TI is trying to make it easier for manufacturers to develop software with the ZigBee and ZigBee RF4CE protocol stacks, which will allow software that enables smartphones to act as remote controls for a number of systems like set-top boxes and smart TVs.

The idea is to use touchscreen interfaces, such as those on smartphones and tablets, to interact with home appliances and entertainment systems, as well as monitor things around the home like energy usage and status.

See the press release on the following page for additional details.
