During a keynote speech at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said they are not working on Twitter-branded mobile phone. However, he did admit that 40% of all tweets originate from cell phones, the fact that prompted rumors the Twitter phone is an option for the company. Moreover, Costolo talked about the need to better integrate Twitter into existing phone platforms, include single sign-ons wherever possible and allow more apps to tweet directly without going to another app. Android, as you can imagine, is pointed as a prime example where all this is possible.
That “other social service” Facebook, on the other hand, has different plans. Yesterday we’ve seen HTC unveiling their first smartphones, HTC Salsa and HTC ChaCha, with dedicated Facebook buttons and I’m sure Twitter and some other services would like to have a similar treatment, as well.
