Heads up Android users, PlayOn is now available in the Android Market. Now you’ll be able to stream Hulu, your Netflix Instant Queue, and many more channels right to your device!
PlayOn gives you a 14 day trial to check it out, and reasonable payment options after the trial has expired. You can pay $40 bucks for the year, and $20 thereafter, or you can just throw $80 bucks to them and you’ll be good for the life of your device. The application requires Android 2.2 or higher, and it’s a bit funny to see that the Droid Eris is the phone advertised for the service on the PlayOn website when you download the trial.
All you need to do is download the server from the website, and the application from the Android Market, and after a simple setup, you’re good to go. The service will work on either WiFi or 3G, so you can take your favorite shows with you on the go. So if you’re aching to watch It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia while on the bus, just fire up PlayOn, and catch up with the gang. Now if they would just get the History Channel on board I’d cancel my cable provider.
PlayOn has been around for quite a while, and iOS user have been enjoying it since October of last year. Now that it’s available for Android, we finally have a great TV streaming service, and hopefully other services like this will follow suit in the near future.
“We’re pleased to add Android to our ever-growing list of compatible devices for streaming online video content,” states Jeff Lawrence, CEO of MediaMall Technologies. “Our goal is to make it easy for everyone to affordably access online video content using the screen of their choice. With support for Xbox 360, PlayStation3, Wii, Google TV, Roku, iOS, and now Android, among a multitude of other DLNA-compliant devices, PlayOn offers the most affordable one-stop solution for accessing online video content on your living room TV and mobile device.”
