MetroPCS is teaming with Snoop Dogg to introduce the Samsung Galaxy Indulge – one of the first Android handsets that has 4G LTE capabilities. I’m not really sure where everyone’s favorite pot-smoking rap star fits in with this phone but you can get a chance to win a vacation to meet Snoop Dogg. Fer shizzles.
As for the device itself, the Samsung Galaxy Indulge is a full-on smartphone with a 1 GHz processor, Android 2.2 and a 3-megapixel camera. This isn’t the Craft, as the Galaxy Indulge will actually be able to make use of that 4G LTE network by being able to access complex sites, download videos and download more than 200,000 apps from the Android Market. Because this is MetroPCS without a contract, the device will cost about $400 and you’ll need the $50 or $60 plan to use it.
As for MetroPCS, it has quietly been keeping pace with the major carriers when it comes to the 4G market. The company has had a 4G LTE network for a while and it continues to roll out service in new cities nearly every other week. This is its first device that will actually have the horsepower and the operating system to really take advantage of the higher speed though.
The $60 price tag may be the best weapon for MetroPCS in this 4G world, as that’s at least $10 cheaper than the service you can get from Sprint and T-Mobile for equivalent service. We’re still waiting to hear how much the Verizon 4G LTE smartphones will cost per month but we’re expecting the HTC Thunderbolt to hit the streets in the not-too-distant future.
